VG PEARL JOINS TARLAQUEÑOS CRY FOR JUSTICE FOR ANDRE MARCOS
“They have taken a life for what they call brotherhood,” this is Vice Governor Pearl Pacada’s statement as she joins the whole Province of Tarlac in the mourning of the death of Marc Andre Marcos, the 21 years old freshman law student at San Beda College, and the latest fatality of fraternity hazing.
Vice Governor Pearl Pacada, the Mother of the Province of Tarlac, grieves with the Marcos family, and is saddened by the wasted life caused by a disregard of the law by individuals who are believed to be advocates of it. Andre Marcos came from a family of lawyers. His grandfather, Matilliano, is a retired regional trial court judge while his aunt, lawyer Marimier Marcos-Rivera, teaches at the Tarlac State University (TSU) College. “His father, Mac, told me that his son always dreamt of becoming a lawyer and it pains me as well that he suffered such a bad fate even though we have the anti-hazing law that has been existing for 17 years,” VG Pearl says.
In solidarity with the thousands of Tarlaqueños who are appealing for justice, Vice Governor Pearl Pacada leads the launching of the Black Ribbon Justice for Marc Andre Marcos, which was held on Thursday, August 2, 2012.
Vice Governor Pearl Pacada, together with Tarlac State University students and teachers, PGT (Provincial Government of Tarlac) heads and employees collectively wore black ribbons on their arm to show their support on pressing for justice for Marcos and to condemn hazing.
The Lady Vice Governor also spearheaded a program held at Tarlac State University wherein students and officers of the Student Council had a short forum whether they are pro or against fraternities here in the Province of Tarlac. During the said event, the Tarlac State University Admin also shared that the University allows fraternities, just as long as they follow the rules and guidelines set by the Administration. A noise barrage was also conducted along the Tarlac Provincial Capitol to encourage more Tarlaqueños to join in the call for authorities to promptly act on bringing justice to the perpetrators of the crime.
“I am not against fraternities, but I am against the severe violence from hazing. We will do this every day if we need to, just to prevent anything like this from happening again and prevent future aspirants from being victimized by fraternity hazing,” Vice Governor Pearl Pacada says.
